This was the first time my husband and I went to San Francisco, so we really wanted a guided tour. The Alcatraz tour is a must when you are in San Francisco, although the cruise around the bay can be disappointing due to the weather. We could see less than 50 percent of the Golden Gate bridge due to fog, the following day would be fine (unfortunately we only had one day to take the cruise even though the ticket is valid for a few weeks), therefore pick your days carefully when you are thereDonald G., 826, 08-2008
I think it should be envisised more the importance of early booking tickets for Alcatraz as it is impossible to cross on same day. The Bay cruise had excellent audio facilities and we found it very informative and made the whole trip very interesting it was also very well paced. Alcatraz also had good audio facilities and it definetly made the whole experience a lot easier being able to pr-book our tickets and not have to worry about trip availability. The ticketing process is a little confusing, the two piers are quite far apart if you have to walk between them, and the Alcatraz tour is VERY prompt. I think the Alcatraz tour is a little over priced, as you have to tolerate bird poop everywhere you go, and the island is very stinky AND most of the walking is very steep inclines. There is no way to adjust the headsets for the Bay tour and much of the narrating is too loud and the music and sound effects are cheesy.Mary H., 840, 07-2008

We loved seeing the Alcatraz and the bay area for 1 hour. Learned a lot from the tour guide on bay tour. The directions on the internet couldn't be easier. The audio tour of Alcatraz was very interesting. I liked the fact that you could stop the audio at any time to spend more time at one place. It would be nice if that was explained when you got your radio set.
The 1 hour cruise gave us a view of the city that is unique to the experience of just driving around the city. It was very educational and a great opportunity to take photos. Monica M., 840, 06-2008
We were determined to take this tour to Alcartaz when our holiday was in the initial planning stages, and i have to say we were not dissapointed. The guided tour events were very interesting and informative, they cover several different areas military, Hollywood and other perspectives of the islands history, very worth while. We had a wonderful day on the Bay Cruise and trip out to Alcatraz. The Bay Cruise commentary was very knowledgeable and we learned quite a bit about San Francisco we didn't know. Alcatraz was great, I would recommend taking the 10am Bay Cruise and then the 12:45 Alcatraz Ferry to maximize your time at Alcatraz... we felt like we didn't have enough time going on the 1:20pm Ferry then needing to come back on the 3:05 Ferry to make it to SFO airport in time.Amanda D., 826, 04-2008

We visited San Francisco for one weekend, and tried to cram as much as possible into it,however that went out the window when the girls saw the shops. Our tour was a cruise round the bay and a trip to Alcatraz Island, thoroughly enjoyed both. We had an excellent and well narrated tour of Alcatraz and I intend to go back in the near future. Our only regret was that this Island is a large part of San Frans history and, from what we experienced a must see trip for all visitors, it was a shame that the authorities, local businesses and Californian lotteries don't restore all the buildings including the warden/family accommodation back to their original state as I think that access to this side of the Island would be a major benefit to the tours.malcolm j., 826, 07-2007

I had a great day seeing the sights of San Francisco. The boat tour went as planned, even though the morning of my tour day was overcast & rainy; this didn't deter the tour from going ahead and it was actually nice seeing San Francisco in all kinds of weather.
The trip to Alcatraz in the afternoon was excellent; the duration was the right amount of time & I was fortunate to get over on an earlier departure as I arrived at the loading dock well in advance of my booked time. Your Alcatraz boarding tickets will be held at will call at Alcatraz Cruises on PIER 33.
When you present your Alcatraz cruise voucher, picture ID and credit card used on the reservation transaction the boarding tickets are printed. Be sure to show up 30 to 45 minutes before your Alcatraz cruise! Tickets may not be picked up prior to the tour date. Map to Pier 33 Location.
